Back to SemiConductor Network
The Semiconductor specialty network encompasses first-party property damage exposures for the manufacturing of "wafers", integrated circuits, and ultimately "chips". This includes the production of silicon wafers, wafer processing, making the actual chips, assembly & testing, and ultimately its placement into a piece of electronic equipment. The process at a given facility can include several of these sub-processes, or it may be highly specialized. Understanding what part of the process is occurring at your insured's facility is key in understanding your exposure. In many instances, these processes are accomplished by different insured's, producing a potential cross-liability from an interdependency exposure.
While these facilities are inherently very clean, they utilize several hazardous processes which require large quantities of gasses, chemicals, and electricity. Fire protection can vary from risk to risk. Additionally, there are regional differences in the design and construction of these facilities. In order to add value to the underwriting process, your reinsurer should to be able to understand the possibilities and predict the outcomes of such events.
Gen Re has a team of specialists who understand the issues and exposures of this industry. We are committed to developing quality relationships and to working with those clients who choose to write this unique class of business. You may access anyone in this network directly with a question, or contact your local representative regarding a specific risk. |
